Honor One Another

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

This morning we met with our musicians for breakfast at an amazing little bakery in uptown Charlotte. We have been doing a band breakfast about every 5-6 weeks, and it’s been a great time to get together outside of a typical weekend and just hang out and talk about whatever the Lord is doing through our ministry or even discuss a topic that we feel is relevant to our players and vocalists at the time. Today, in particular, we talked about honoring one another. Honor is such a key principle for our culture here at Elevation, and we want to make sure we are bringing that into our bands as well. So we opened up the floor, went around the room, and had our guys and girls honor each other. They pin pointed ways they have each blessed one another, and complimented each other on their unique gifts and personalities. It was pretty awesome!

Here’s a silly look at the morning…

Meet Our Vocalists

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Here are some thoughts from 3 of our lovely and talented vocalists…
Amy Corbett

“Hi, my name is Amy Corbett, and I am one of the vocalists here at Elevation. My life has been completely changed by being apart of Elevation. In the past 4 1/2 years, I have heard Pastor Steven speak on having an audacious faith many times. One sermon that I will never forget was called ‘Pitiful Prayers into Powerful Prayers’. He said ‘pray audacious prayers big enough to blame God for’. ‘If your prayer is answered, good, if it’s not, God is still God.’ This made such an impact in my life. If I really wanted to see God working through me, I needed to have crazy faith to believe that God truly can do anything. I’ve seen this happen so many times at Elevation. We pray for something bigger than what we think can happen, and God answers. This belief that nothing can stop the Lord is the reason that I enjoy so much worshipping God at Elevation.”

Shelli Harsha

“Hi, I’m Shelli, and one of my favorite things about Elevation Church is that anyone who steps foot into a weekend service is given the opportunity to be a part of something a lot bigger than they ever imagined.  This became especially true when our church began giving to organizations all over the world. It’s so great to know that when I tithe to my church, I am impacting not only my city, but also countries all over the world. And practically speaking, I love seeing who my tithes and offerings are blessing when Elevation shares the countless stories of lives that are being changed through this church.  It’s so easy to give and serve at such an openly generous church.”

Kelly McNamara

“I’m Kelly, a vocalist here at Elevation. In the past three and a half years at this church, I’ve seen God do more than I ever thought possible. From the beginning, Pastor has reminded us that Ephesians 3:20 is real and that God can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. Every sermon series speaks something new into my life, but one series that I can still go back to is When Life and Truth Collide. Pastor spoke on checking our perspective, position and priorities when we feel like what we have is not enough. It’s a lesson that still applies to my life and still helps remind me that God is enough. I’m so thankful for what I’ve learned at Elevation and how I’ve been able to be a part of seeing people far from God become filled with life in Christ.”

Meet Preston

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

If you’ve been on our blog much, you know we love our musicians and we value their commitment to the vision of this house.  We thought it’d be cool for you to hear from a couple of our guys and gals that lead worship with us every weekend at Elevation.

Meet Preston Hayden.  Generally speaking, he’s the man.  He laughs a lot.  Likes music theory.  And knows how to treat a bass.  He’d like to tell you a bit about his love for Elevation….

“I have played music in churches my whole life, so it wasn’t a big deal for me when Mack asked me to fill in for one of my friends who regularly played bass at elevation in Jan 08. I didn’t know anything about the church going into it.

I remember being stirred my first couple Sundays and couldn’t quite put my finger on why. Pastor Steven was obviously killing it but it went beyond that. As I continued to play it occurred to me that every facet of the church functioned with excellence and it just resonated with me. Something in my soul knew that this is what our creator has always deserved but was not getting in many places. It took me six months switching in and out with another bass player to decide to move to Charlotte to be a part of God’s movement here full time.

Often new and exciting endeavors have a bit of a ‘honeymoon phase’ and soon after you begin to see things for who or what they really are. This can often be disappointing but my experience with Elevation has been quite different. As I continued to get plugged in and invested I realized just how strong the leadership of the church really was. Everyone was united under the vision and it showed down to the most intimate conversations you might have with someone. I have been a part of many music ministries and this is exceedingly rare.

On a personal level the relationships and teaching I have been fortunate to sit under have resulted in real life change for me. The Lord has put me in a place where I can not only watch him move mightily before me and through me, but He has put me in a place where I can be empowered to grow as a leader. We’re wrapping up our ‘E Series’ and above all, I’m leaving with a strong sense of gratitude to God for surrounding me with such great leaders so that I too can lead greatly. Though my circle is smaller than those of the leaders above me, I am still accountable for what I have been entrusted with.  So if you’re reading this, know that God’s entrusted you with gifts.  Feel empowered.  Empower own your circle, and learn from those who have encircled you.”

Some New Initiatives…

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

We met with our entire worship team (musicians and vocalists) on Wednesday night. Wade shared some great thoughts on our purpose as worship leaders. I won’t go into that now… i’ll let him blog about it since he said it all so well the other night. But, i do want to share some of our new goals for the team. We are really excited to take our guys and girls to the next level in worship and just dig deeper as men and women of God.

First, we will all be reading Forgotten God, by Francis Chan. You may remember Chris blogging about it a while back. The guys and I read it a few months ago and really felt it spoke to us as worshippers. So now we are really pumped to read it with our entire worship team! Each week until we finish, we will use it as discussion for our Sunday devotional.

Second, we are starting a monthly breakfast with our players and vocalists. It will be a time of learning, prayer, and fellowship. I am really looking forward to seeing the Lord move through this monthly meeting. Just getting everyone in one room on a regular basis will be so much fun!

And third, Wade has cast a great vision for our team on the subject of Prayer and Fasting. So when the time arises, we will begin to fast as an entire team (not just worship leaders). As a church, we have seen God move mightily through fasting and prayer. I am so eager to see how He takes our team to the next level.

So that’s the plan. We are really excited about it! Pray for us… let us know how to pray for you! I hope this challenges some of you to pray and seek the Lord about new ways to bring your team to a higher level of worship. Lets give Him our best! :)

Newspring Live Album

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Alright people. Here’s the deal…you NEED to get Newspring Church’s new live album. I’m always in love with any church that is writing their own songs for their people. It’s a passion of ours here at Elevation, and I love that our friends/mentors at Newspring are doing the same.  I’ve been waiting on these tunes to get themselves out to our eager ears ever since hearing them at their live recording back in October. And it’s arrived. Plus, give me one good reason you wouldn’t want to hear Lee McD’s vocals singing over you on your drive to work?

A few quick favs:

OUR GOD IS LOVE is just nasty. In the best way. We’ve loved leading it here at Elevation, and it’s the perfect track to open up this new record.

GIVE YOU GLORY will be stuck in your head all day long.

GLORIOUS with Rose Angela’s vocals is absolutely beautiful, and one of the most corporately singable songs from the album.

FOR YOUR GLORY is a simple and straightforward chorus melody, jam-packed with incredible truth.  CANNOT WAIT to lead it here!

MY HOPE has the best bridge/tag out there right now.

So get outta here, and get your paws on this new album.

We Love Our Vocalists!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Kelly and Shelli are a part of our amazing team of background vocalists. We can’t thank them enough for the countless hours they serve on the weekends. Their hard work and enthusiasm help make the worship team what it is. Both of these talented ladies are such great team players, and we are so proud of how far they have come! We pray that the Lord would continue to use their talents for His glory.

Kelly and Shelli, we love you and are so happy to have you on the Worship Team!
